My Most Participated Trends of 2016 and Predictions for 2017

THIS IS MY COMMANDMENT,
THAT YOU LOVE ONE ANOTHER AS I HAVE LOVED YOU.

GREATER LOVE HAS NO ONE THAN THIS,
THAT SOMEONE LAY DOWN HIS LIFE FOR HIS FRIENDS. JOHN15:12

*Currently jumping in tongues as I sight my name in the cast of the wedding party movie *

My loves,
It is with great joy that I write this post. This will most likely be my last post of the year, 2016 and honestly, it’s been my best year so far. I’m so happy for how God has taken me and I’m super excited for where he’s taking me to. He’s carefully orchestrating my life story and it’s gonna be such a BANG!!!

So, to today’s post, I’ll be sharing some trends with you, that went all viral and “bandwagonish” in 2016. There was a million and one trends in the year but these are the ones I mainly took part in. Hope you enjoy.

In terms of fashion,

Layering Outfits

Adding a shirt to an outfit makes all the difference, especially if its a white shirt

The off shoulder trend
I particularly took this personal Cuz I have naturally screaming shoulders. My shoulders are literally deeper-life; collar bone and all. Before the trend, I was extremely conscious about my shoulders being in the open because I have a small frame but this trend got me all shoulder-flaunting! I love some skin showing as far as its not compromising and this trend speaks exactly that!

Fringes

Fringes were everywhere. On gowns, tops, everywhere!!!

The cold shoulder trend
Any avenue to showcase some shoulder is a win for me.

COLD SHOULDER + FRINGES + ANKARA

Flared Denim
I was particularly shocked that this trend came back this year. I had actually changed all my flared denim to fitted ones, only for me to see the trend flying around. Trust that I went ahead to loosen the only one of such slim fitted denim pants I still had left.

Ankara x Denim
Beautiful. Afrocentric. Daring

Exaggerated / Flared sleeves

Others…

Donald Trump x US Elections
I think we’re passed the shock and moving towards acceptance and survival. It’s not like people have got a choice ?

On Becoming by Toke Makinwa

This book by the beautiful and fluent Toke Makinwa was such a hit!  Everyone was reading it. She succeeded in getting Nigerians to do what all university professors had been trying to achieve – get people to READ!
While I reserve my reviews and takes on the book, I believe it’s a good read, at least to get yourself aware of what goes on around you and to pick one or two lessons from it.

Headies 2016
Was that a joke?  That event cracked me up so much, I can’t imagine how dissapointed those who paid money to see it were. Disaster ni mehn!  Uwani Aliyu made Headies 2016 so much fun on twitter!  I luurh you girl!
It was more or less a throwback Thursday media post, with Tony Tetuila and the likes performing… Is it a coincidence that it took place on a Thursday? SMH

The Wedding Party Movie

This romantic comedy was one of the most talked about movies of the year. Funny, colourful, relaxing. Kemi Adetiba did a lovely job. I appreciate the movie more because I was behind the scenes and saw how much work the entire team put into it. You can’t imagine how much work it is acting, taking your lines over, repeating each scene like three times. Omo, no be beans. Check out my behind the scenes video HERE

Predictions for 2017

Live Streaming on Social Media

I see a lot of live streaming already going on, on Facebook and Instagram. There will definitely be more of this as people, brands especially, will take this in full force to market their product and services and to bond with their communities and customers.

The Shoulders Again?

Hell, yeah! The shoulders are here to stay. More styles that flaunt the shoulders and the architecture that surrounds it will be more in the coming year.

Loose Clothing

A lot of people are coming to terms with the fact that tight clothing isn’t always classy. Being comfortable and queening in what you wear is the new cool. ‘Over extra’ pieces of flesh is no longer attractive.

…and its a wrap for the year.

Let me know which of these you took part in. 2017 is going to be a lit year. Believe it, work towards it and you’ll achieve it.

Cheers,

Remember,

Always reflect God’s Perfection xx.
