Trendiest Entertainment/Fashion News, Events & Hashtags of 2017

Aside the myriad of lessons learnt in 2017, a lot of events and trends set the pace this year. There were new fashion and beauty trends, stories that shook social media and hashtags that hit the airwaves like a Bazooka. So, let’s do a fun recap, shall we???

Lagos Fashion and Design Week (LFDW)

LFDW is an annual fashion event that holds in Lagos. It was founded by Omoyemi Akerele in 2011 and holds for a couple of days, every year, in Lagos. It’s a platform for fashion designers and enthusiasts across Africa, to showcase their collections and express their love for fashion in diverse ways. Most fashion trends for the coming year are also highlighted during this special week.

I was very excited that a lot of people were very creative with their outfits this year and didn’t go overboard like wearing atarodo or raffia…but the fact remains that creativity means different things to different people so anything is allowed, I guess?
These were some of my favourite looks:

Toyosi Gregory Jonah- The Slaying Supermom

Wumi Tuase

Hallelujah Challenge

The Hallelujah Challenge was a social media revolution that went on for a month, hosted by Gospel Artiste- Nathaniel Bassey. New names for our dear God were digged up and the name OLOWOGBOGBORO hit! There was also a song released to commemorate the event.

People from all over the world tuned in at midnight to sing, dance and pray together. It went so far as being featured on CNN.

Fenty Beauty

Rihanna snatched everyone’s wigs when she launched the Fenty Beauty Makeup Products consisting of about 30 diverse shades of foundation, highlighters, highlighting and contour sticks and a lipgloss.

Rihanna at the launch

Since the launch, she has gone ahead to add a couple of lipstick shades and a lip paint as well. This was a big move in the beauty industry because a lot of women of colour had been agitating for beauty products that could cater for their skin tone and Rihanna was very close to smashing that goal, if not completely.

iPhone X

Apple decided to break our banks by introducing the iPhone 8 and the iPhoneX. There was much more noise on the iPhone X (pronounced iPhone 10), probably because of its facial identity, camera, etc features.

I’m sure it’s worth more than a land in my village, so if you can afford it, why not?

#BAAD17

The most talked about Nigerian wedding of 2017 with the hashtag #BAAd17, featuring BankyW and his beautiful bride, Adesua Etomi. The traditional wedding held in Nigeria while the white wedding was held in a South Africa. You can trust those of us who attended the wedding on Snapchat, Instagram and Twitter to be very punctual.

We had our best and worst dressed from the event but Ebuka was the killer of the event. Can we take a moment to appreciate the fact that when God says it’s your time, nothing can stop you? I’m talking of the designer of that Prestigious Agbada that Ebuka wore. Kai!

The Wedding Party II Premiere

One of my faves

One of the most watched movies of 2016- The Wedding Party had a sequel premiered recently in Lagos. The theme was to depict Arabian Nights but I think most of our celebs didn’t get the memo. They were mostly dressed in other cultures, most especially Indian. Krishna and Khafilat, dem resemble? Issokay. Some of them smashed the theme tho; Adesua, Sola Sobowale, Linda Ejiofor, etc.

Another fave of mine

Year End Concerts- Adekunle Gold, Falz, Wizkid and Davido

A lot of concerts held towards the end of this year. Falz and Wizkid did extremely well with their concerts and Adekunle Gold’s was a hit back to back. From sources, it seemed to be the best of all this year’s end concerts.

Davido’s seemed to be worst (judging from our snapchat views and rants on social media) and this went further to fuel the feud between Wizkid and Davido’s fans.

Their fans are undoubtedly taking Panadol on these celebs’ headache and I’m just here wondering, una don chop today?

Adekunle Gold and Simi shuu marry jor!

By the way, can these two just get married already? I’m tired of waiting for hashtag and Asoebi colour jare. Maybe custard bucket yellow or Alangba Orange would do just fine!

2017 was a massively eventful year. What trends do you think will make the airwaves in 2018? Whose style was your fav at #BAAD17 and the Wedding Party II Premiere? Have you tried any Fenty Beauty Product? What trendy event did I miss out on? Let me know in the comments section below.

Cheers to a Mindblowing 2018!!!

Till my next post,

Remember,

Always reflect God’s perfection xx.
