Happy New Year, my darlings.
It’s a fresh time to clear and rewrite our life templates and be who we dream to be. So, in this post, I’ll be telling you How to Have a Happy New Year.
I am writing this with great happiness because some goals I set for 2018 are already beginning to actualize and it gives me so much joy. Let’s get right into it:
GRAB A PEN AND PAPER THO. YOU MIGHT NEED TO SCRIBBLE SOME THINGS DOWN. THIS MIGHT BE A LONG READ
1. Seek God First
If you’re a believer in God (Christian/Muslim/Agbonmiregun Worshipper), you might agree with me that seeking Him on the next move in your life is so very important. Your walk in life might seem aimless if you haven’t gotten to that point where you’re asking God ‘what next? What do I do with my life?’ And so on.
Towards the end of last year, I kind of found myself in two mini depression episodes because I was beginning to allow ‘You are worthless. Where is your life going sef’ thoughts to get me negatively. I wasn’t feeling at all, like a Child of God. I wasn’t feeling at all, like someone with a purpose. In all honesty, I just felt like a failure because there were certain things I expected in my life that weren’t there, especially career-wise.
After getting through those episodes, I got praying and discovered the depression was able to creep in because I had strayed away from fellowshiping with God so I had to retrace my steps and seek Him. Seek Him in the morning, noon and night and He would show you what you were created for.
Also, we are a time when, if your faith is not solid, you would be quick to quiver. So, you must develop ways to build your faith like never before; spend time with Him, declare scriptures to yourself, listen to sermons and so on. Please send me a dm on any of my social media platforms if you need some help with this.
Seeking God is the best foundation for you as Who can know a product better than it’s Producer?
2. Set Realistic Goals and Work Towards Them
If you had asked me about New Year Resolutions a couple of years ago, I’d have laughed, told you to enter Keke Napep and just find your way to Tarkwa Bay so you’ll let me hear word.
However, as time goes on and my thirst to be successful gets deeper, I have come to understand that resolutions are important; whether New Year or new month and setting goals is the benchmark of resolutions.
It is imperative for you to set specific goals in every area of your life.
DON’T SAY: THIS YEAR I WANT TO BE CLOSE TO GOD
SAY: THIS YEAR, I WOULD READ 2 CHAPTERS OF THE BIBLE DAILY, AT LEAST ONE SERMON DAILY AND PRAY FOR 30MINUTES.
Now, that’s more realistic because it’s measurable.
If you’re a student, endeavour to set goals like, ‘I would read ahead at least one chapter of this course’.
It’s easy to measure the success of these goals because they have measurable variables such as time, content and eventual results.
This should also reflect in your finance which brings me to…
3. Save Aggressively
If there was one advice I could tell my University student self, it would be to save aggressively. I was really bad at saving in 2017 and I didn’t get up to do it right until about two months to the end of the month. If you know me well, you’d know that I love food so guess who spent all her money on Food and Data? Na me.
But I’ve discovered ways to save better. I have two savings plans; one with Piggybank.ng and the other with Cowrywise.com. You can sign up to Cowrywise.com HERE as I hear that they have better interest percentage than Piggybank.
This year, I’m hoping to travel a bit and live more on my own money. I was able to do the latter last year but then, I wasn’t saving so 2018 we move! If you can, invest some money in some sort of business or bond. It’ll pay off later on!
4. Get Trained!
The internet is packed with a million and one notes, videos and pictures on any topic you may want to research about. I wish I understood the power of YouTube especially, more, when I was in the university. I probably would have graduated Best Graduating student, who knows?
On a more serious note though, get trained in any aspect you want. You want to be a web designer, go on YouTube and watch tutorials. You want to be an Architect, there are a million books and tutorials online. You want to be a photographer, Makeup Artiste… whatever it is, get on the internet.
You can also get additional knowledge by paying a fee to someone to teach you. Have a mentor or a role model. Study their patterns and learn from them. Do not copy them, through. Learn from them but be creative as well. Everyone else is already taken, so just be you. Learn and Be an authority in your field because prayers without work is dead.
5. Read More
Readers are Leaders. I’m on a challenge to read at least, two books each month, this year. From the pages of books, you can be in a million places at once. You can be in Yaba and Alabama at the same time, just from the page of a book.
Read on Finance, Life, Fashion, Entrepreneurship, Business, Politics, Public Relations, etc. Bottom line-JUST READ!
6. Be kind and full of Love
I was listening to a sermon by Apostle Joshua Selman a couple of hours ago and he made a statement that really rang in my head. Being strong in faith alone will not cover up for bad behaviour. Being diligent at work alone will not cover up for tithing.
In other words, if you do all the above things but have no love or kindness in you, you’re as good as you don’t do all the above. Spread Love around. Be kind to people. Give and put a smile on someone’s face. I’m still learning this too as sometimes, I can be so worked up with people all up in my space or ‘disturbing’ me like I’d put it but relationship with people matters. You never know who can help you get to where you want to go.
Love God and Love your neighbour as yourself (not more than o, that’s story for another day).
7. Stay Positive
This is probably one of the hardest of all the tips on this list. You must make a conscious, consistent effort to stay positive all the time. The devil will try VERY WELL to discourage you but you must remember that you’re a king, you’re a queen, you’re Jollof rice and dodo, not some anyhow plantain chips.
You are a Chosen Nation, a light created to illuminate the world and you are nothing less than the nature of whom you are; God. You are God’s Masterpiece and THAT is enough!
BONUS TIP: please make sure to take time out to rest, laugh, play and have fun. No kill yourself o!
If you can keep at this all through the year, I’m sure you’ll succeed in the New Year!
I hope you find these tips helpful. Please share and help someone have a very Happy New Year.
Cheers.
Till my next post,
Always reflect God’s Perfection.
